We learn that the Whiteville Wine Company, whose operations have been suspended for the past few years on ac count of a lack of demand at remunera tive prices for their wines, have put up ibout 200 barrels of that beverage during the past autumn. It is Baid that they are now having a fair demand at reasonable prices for the products of the vines, with a good prospect that it will continue, are glad to note these facts, for the wines manufactured by this company are very superior to much that is pat upon the market as imported. Fair and Festival. The ladies connected with the Front Street M. E. Church will hold a Fair and Festival at the City Hall, on Thursday night, the 18th inst., at which will be spread a table bountifully supplied with the very best of food and nicest tea and coffee which will be served to the hungry and thirsty at reasonable rates. There will be also offered for sale a great variety of Christ mas goods suitable for presents to rel atives and friends and especially such as will make glad the hearts of the little ones. It will undoubtedly be a pleasant and enjoyable affair, as those who have the matter in charge are known to be au ait in such matters. You pay the lowest cash prices for Household Hardware at Jacobi's Hard ware Depot. f rtUe Llllington (Long Creek) River improvement. The people of Pender seem determined to push forward this popular measure. A petition to Congress, asking for, a survey with a view to an appropriation from the general government to improve the navi gation of this important stream, is now being, extensively circulated and every body is signing it. This is as it should be. The enterprise is feasible, practical useful, and every way deserves the foster" ing aid and patronage of Congress. We trust cur Senators and Representatives at Washington will unite in giving this rion partisan scheme a successful support. It is calculated to benefit Wilmington and to add to tbe importance of our harbor im provement measure. Our citizens, one and all, should favor it. Application will be made to our Chamber of Commerce and Board of Trade for endorsement and it will do ibtless bs given. Lecture at the Opera House. We hope that our readers will not forget the lecture entitled 'A New View oi North Carolina History which its author, Col. A. M. Waddell, will repeat at the Opera House to-morrow (Wednesday) night for the benefit of St. James' Home. It is a very enteresting literary effort, and the cause is a most worthy one, as our readers, who read in the Review of December 4th., an account of the workings ol this noble institution, as compiled from an abstract of Rev. Dr. Watson's sermon on Thanksgiving Daycare well aware. The efforts of this institution in a measure, are to reclaim those who possibly but fr tl e worthy efforts of the founders and workers of the St. James' Home, would remain as outcasts, without the necessary religious instruction to discriminate between right doing and wrong or evil practices; ihi children of whom might grow up in a Christian community totally ignorant of the duties which they owe to God and their country. Those who contribute tbe price of aticket tojsuch an institution will find, no doub", ttut it will be bread cast upon the waters to return to them at some future day. Review.
